IT'S MORE THAN JUST RUGBY!!!!
Over the years Maverick Rugby has tried to do their part during the Holiday Season by adopting a family through the Salvation Army or Brighter Tomorrows Woman Shelter to teaming up with the Boy Scouts to send care packages to our troops overseas. Recently we've added a few things to help out within the City of Grand Prairie that we have been calling home now for over 10 years.
ADOPT-A-STREET - PICKIN' UP THE TRASH
In April 2012 the Mavericks started participating in the Keep Grand Prairie Beautiful Adopt a Street Program. We are right down the street from Prairie Park as we have adopted MacArthur Blvd between Main and I-30 which are cleaning the one mile stretch of road four times a year.
Since December 2009 the club has been helping out Grand Prairie Parks and Rec by manning Prairie Lights at Lynn Creek Park for a night following the first half of the season. In 2012 we were lucky enough to get our picture taken with the big guy in the "Red Suit".
FOOD DRIVE/TOY DRIVE
In 2011 at our Christmas Party we collected food as well as donations which went towards the purchase of additional food and we were able to donate 315 cans of food to the Grand Prairie Food & Clothing Assistance Co-op. In 2012 we started the drive a little early at our last home match of 2012 and joined in on the Toy Drive our sponsor, Plaza Pub was having to benefit Mission Arlington. Between food, toys and donations were able to provide 16 toys as well as 389 cans of food to St. Vincent de Paul who like the GPFCAC serve the families in North East Grand Prairie.
In April 2011 the club played a big part in the KABOOM playground build as Club President, John Kurylas was on the Build Day Planning Committee and along with many Mavericks, Alumni and Family Members we were able to help Grand Prairie Parks and Rec build a playgournd in one day.
