Maverick Rugby Shows Generosity During Christmas!
Under the guidance of Michael Twaddell and Allison Roberts, the Maverick
Rugby Club, through the Salvation Army, adopted a family for Christmas. Our
initial fundraising goal was $500, but the Maverick ruggers really came
through, and showed their generosity by more than doubling the final amount
raised. Our adopted family was a single mom who recently lost her husband,
and her young son. Please see the photo below of our Match Secretary Michael
Twaddell and Vice-President Mark Wilkerson dropping off the items to the
Salvation Army.
Allison Roberts, who coordinated the shopping for the family, reports on the
efforts, as follows:
"We ended up with $1,127 in donations. We bought clothes and toys for
the boy and 2 outfits for the mom. We also bought the following gift
certificates: $100 at Minyards, $30 at Payless Shoe Source and $10 at
Burger King. (I purchased these gift certificates from my sister's
church - so we actually are helping yet another charitable cause - the
church gets a percentage of the purchases) And
best of all, we gave $575 towards the family's rent money (with a money
order to the apartment complex)!!
This was such a great thing for the team to do! Thanks for all the
donations and for the shopping help from the girls! I'm sure we have
made a very special Christmas for this family. Merry Christmas everyone!"
